A pharmacist whose application to open a pharmacy in a health centre in Sudbury was rejected by Primary Care Support England (PCSE) last year has won an appeal and overturned the decision.
Locum pharmacist Zahid Shah will now open the pharmacy at Sudbury Community Health Centre after NHS Resolution ruled in his favour.
Rejecting his application, PCSE had said the area offered the local community sufficient pharmaceutical services but Shah argued high patient demand meant a new pharmacy was desperately needed.
He was supported by Sudbury Town Council, with one councillor reportedly describing PCSE’s decision to turn his application down as “a disgrace”.
In a Facebook post, Siam Surgery, which is based in the health centre, said the new pharmacy “will be an excellent addition” and will help “meet the growing needs of our community”.
“We’re pleased to share that the application has now been approved and an independent pharmacy will soon be opening at the health centre,” the surgery said.
“While we don't have all the details just yet, we expect further information will be shared widely soon.
“Although it will be located in the same building, please note that this pharmacy is independent of Siam Surgery and will be open to everyone.”
